Introduction To "The Copper Creek Life" by Copper Creek Builders

As I write the first official post on the Copper Creek Life blog, I’m reminded of the well known Lao Tzu quote that says “the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” In the same way we are committed to providing you, our readers, with content and ideas that are intended to both entertain and educate. While the above quote may sound a bit philosophical, I'd like to tell you a quick story that explains my connection to it.

Now is a good time to point out that my name is Silas Colman and I’m a land developer and a quality home builder in Grand Junction, Colorado. Several years ago, I was working through our first complete land development project which had taken a couple of years from the time we purchased the land to the time we completed the roads. Before we can start building a single home, the roads must be built! This makes sense when you think about it...

I can remember clearly how much excitement I had driving through our first community for the first time on paved roads! When I got to the end of the pavement I noticed what looked to be a piece of trash on the side of our new road so I stopped to pick up the mess. When I reached down to pick it up, I realized it was a framed sign with the words “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step,” written on it. The timing seemed somewhat providential, so I saved the sign and you can see a picture of it below.

With that intro, let me start to explain the purpose of this blog and why we hope it will  be worth investing your time to follow it.  As I mentioned before, I’m a land developer and home builder, and I work with my father,  Chris Colman, and a team of really great people, who you’ll hear about and from in the coming posts.

About Copper Creek Builders:

As a group, we’ve decided to take a slightly unconventional approach to the land development and home building process. Most developers/builders focus on getting the maximum amount of building lots on a given piece of land, then they build houses that all look unnoticeably different, sometimes even "cookie-cutter-ish", except for a few changes like adding shutters or flipping the layout.

Copper Creek Subdivision

We've taken an alternative path: We have a personal goal, passion and mission to create something different, something that delivers much more than four walls and a roof surrounded by asphalt streets. We don’t build subdivisions, we build communities. In this blog I’ll be highlighting the massive difference between the two along with some of the elements that make up what we refer to as the Copper Creek Life and help you to see, if not experience the benefits of how we approach the craft of home building in the Grand Valley.

What you can expect in future Copper Creek Blogs:
